Hi There, My name is Stewart and I am about 4 years old now. I came here to rescue in April of 2009 with my brother Andrew. We both had heartworms and came from a life that was hard and difficult, so we were very fearful of everything. And, when we arrived here at CCR they found knowing signs indicating sexual abuse. Andrew and I both received heartworm treatment to get us well. Unfortunately, Andrew did not do well with his recovery and died shortly after. I was sad for quite awhile, but, I survived thanks to all the love and attention I received here in rescue. After a bit of time, and learning to finally trust again, I soon found my forever home in November of 2009 with a family who had 3 children and I was very happy. I was doing really well with this family despite my difficult and very hard past and the children and husband gave me lots of attention and love. I had learned to trust them and I really enjoyed being with them. We took long walks and I was happy. But, then things changed, and as the children got older and busy with other things, and the husband started working all the time, they left me alone alot and really sad. And, then the wife just didn't want to be bothered with me anymore. So, I am now here in rescue and looking for a new home. I will need to work with a patient owner so that I can learn to trust again as I adjust to a new home and a new routine. Due to all of my past history I am still a bit uneasy when going to unknown places. I will do best with a regular groomer who can get to know me well and understand that they will need to work with me on things and be patient with me. And, I will also need a regular vet who understands that I started out young with a very difficult and hard life and he/she will need to work with me and be patient with me too. I am a very nice, heartworm negative, healthy cocker boy, as I had treatment done back in April of 2009. My ideal home will be with an owner who can work with me on trusting them, so that I can just enjoy a good life again. I love to go on walks and I love to sleep in my doggie bed. I used to snuggle with the father and the children when they would sit on the couch and watch TV. I need and enjoy love and attention, but I don't care to be smothered with it. And, I will do best in a home without real young children. Life has been so unfair to me coming from having a hard and difficult beginning, and then I got lucky and had a good life with a nice family. Now, everything has changed again and I am the one who has paid the price. If you can give me the home that I deserve, please fill out an application and come to see me.
